West Wales rivals build up for pre-season encounter

-

CARMARTHEN Town and Ammanford are to face each other in a preseason derby.

The West Wales clubs will meet at Richmond Park on Saturday, July 27 (2.30pm).

The game replaces the planned friendly between Carmarthen and Cardiff Met, which has been cancelled. The Archers could still be involved in the Europa League at that point. They visit Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg in their first game on June 27.

Ammanford will see the game as vital preparation for their FAW Championship South campaign.

The new division has replaced the old Welsh League division one and Ammanford will face derbies against the likes of Llanelli Town and Cwmamman United.

It is one of five pre-season games Carmarthen have so far planned, though they are also hoping to arrange a clash for Wednesday, July 10.

FAW Championship side Haverfordwest County visit Carmarthen on July 13 (2.30pm), with the Old Gold heading to Briton Ferry Llansawel the following Wednesday (7.30pm).

Llanelli Town make the short trip to Richmond Park on July 24 (7.30pm). Then comes the game against Ammanford, before a visit to Cinderford on Saturday, August 3.

The new WPL season is due to get under way the following weekend.

Town’s trio of summer signings are likely to feature in the friendlies. Chris Jones has made the move from Llanelli, while Elliot Scotcher and Josh Bull are the other new arrivals at Richmond Park.
