Batting collapse sees Gorseinon drop back to fifth

-

GORSEINON lost ground on the leaders in South Wales Premier League 2 when they were beaten by seven wickets by Ynysygerwn.

The defeat sees them drop to fifth in the table, 25 points behind leaders Swansea.

Gorseinon went into the clash in confident mood following an easy victory over bottom side Newport Fugitives the previous weekend. And that confidence looked well placed when Kieran Howells and Nishaanth Dalaveye put on 51 for the first wicket.

But when Howells departed for 19, wickets began to tumble at regular intervals.

Dalavaye went on to top score with a patient 32, but the next highest scorer was Christopher Morgan with 24 as the home side collapsed to a disappointing 126 all out in just 39.3 overs.

Yuvraj Odedra ended with the impressive figures of 3-10 in 7.3 overs, while Joshua Griffiths also picked up three wickets.

Gorseinon gave themselves a chance when Nathan Davies and Ryan Evans were dismissed cheaply in the Ynysygerwn reply, but Odedra completed a fine match by making an unbeaten 69, with skipper Alex McCormack adding 40 as the visitors eased home.

Scott Thomas, Kieran O’Connor and Dalavaye all picked up a wicket.

Gorseinon head to Ynystawe on Saturday.
