TRUNDLE SIGNS FOR AMMANFORD

-

LEE Trundle has signed for Ammanford AFC.

Manager Gruff Harrison has pulled off a major coup with the capture of the former Swansea City idol and it is a huge statement of intent by the club ahead of the new FAW Championship South season.

Trundle may be 42, but his star quality remains and he is still one of the most lethal strikers on the nonleague circuit.

And Harrison will be hopeful that his presence can inspire a push for the top end of the Championship next term.

Trundle made his name with Swansea, becoming the darling of the Vetch with his nose for goal, his trickery and dazzling footwork.

And even now, those qualities remain.

Since dropping into the Welsh pyramid, Trundle has been the talisman for every club he has played for.

He had two seasons with Llanelli Town, driving them to promotion to Welsh League division one, then helping to clinch the division one title the following season.

By the time of his departure, he had scored 68 goals in just 45 appearances.

A short spell with Haverfordwest yielded a dozen goals, before a move to Trefelin BGC, where his 14 goals helped inspire the Port Talbot side to promotion from Welsh League division three.

Now his journey has taken him to Ammanford, and Harrison will be hoping his goals can inspire another title challenge.

Trundle said: “I’m really pleased to be joining. The hard work the club have put in off the field with the new stand, floodlight and ground improvements show they are moving in the right direction.

“Hopefully with my experience I can make an improvement on the pitch with my own ability, as well as helping other players on the way.

“The club has a great family feel to it and I’m looking forward to the community coming out and supporting the boys on matchday, and in return myself getting out into the local community and helping out wherever I can.

“I believe to be part of the football club you become part of the area and by us all working together we can bring good times and make great memories.”

An Ammanford statement said: “On the field, Lee enables the club to continue to grow its stature in the domestic game by continuing to provide young footballers in the town with a club which plays at one of the highest levels in Wales.”

“However, Lee equally presents future endeavours to the club in continuing its commitment to enhance its community engagement plans.”

Trundle’s capture is part of a double coup by Ammanford, who have also added Tristan Jenkins to their ranks.

The young winger featured for Llanelli in the Welsh Premier League last term.

He said: “I’m looking forward to playing with a different group of players. I can’t wait to get started.”

Harrison added: “I am delighted to bring Tristan into the club.

“He fits all the characteristics we are looking for in a player. He is young and hungry with great quality, which is the perfect mixture.”
