Clwb Hamdden Leisure club members have recently returned from an enjoyable week’s holiday at the Best Western Burns Hotel near York. They visited Whitby Goathland, the setting for the TV series Heartbeat where the local railway station has appeared in Harry Potter films. There were tours of picturesqu­e villages across the North Yorkshire Dales with some time spent in Harrogate. Members also devoted two days exploring the attractive locations in York. Thanks were expressed by the chairman, Ann Langabeer, to Cy Rees for arranging the varied and interestin­g itinerary for the trip. Keith the PTS bus driver was thanked for a safe and smooth journey. Garden Club Committee There is a committee meeting of the Pembrey and Burry Port Gardening Club on Monday in the Community Hall Pembrey at 7pm. Detailed arrangemen­ts for the Annual Gardening and Craft Show on August 17 will be discussed and any queries you may have about exhibiting addressed. Everyone is welcome to come along. Cost £1.50 for members and £2.50 for non members at the door to include a raffle ticket and refreshmen­ts.The garden club meets on the first Monday of the month except bank holidays and December which is the Christmas dinner. Age Cymru Keep Fit This new keep fit class for people 50+has started at the Pensioners’ Annexe, Memorial Hall, and is on every Thursday from 10am to 11am. Volunteers needed Age Cymru Sir Gâr is looking for volunteers to help older people stay warm and save energy by installing radiator reflectors, nightlight­s, energysavi­ng lightbulbs and timer sockets in their homes. Why not make a difference and make someone feel more independen­t in their own home? Volunteeri­ng is flexible, giving up one hour a week or one day a week, you still make a difference. Free heritage tours These walking tours are every Wednesday morning until September 25 at 10.30am from Café Lolfa, Stepney Road. Enquiries to 07946 583110. Singing For the Soul The next one is Wednesday, July 3 and they are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 2.30pm and 4.30pm in Jerusalem Chapel vestry. Group singing has a host of benefits like improving breathing, posture, mental health, confidence and self-esteem. No experience necessary. Cost £3 per session to include refreshmen­ts. This is in associatio­n with the Pembrey and Burry Port WI.
