Pontyberem Over 50 Club At their meeting in the Memorial Hall on June 11 proceedings began with the Lord’s Prayer led by chairman Brenda Stubbs. Get well wishes were sent to Cathy Reynolds. Birthday greetings for June sent to Gaynor Sandow. The treasurer, Eirlys Morgan set out the day trip on July 16 to St David’s Cathedral and Solva concluding with a meal at the Fox & Hounds, Bancyfelin. The afternoon guest speaker was Carrie Williamson, a club member, on her range of home made and decorated objects. Amongst the collection she put on display were assorted metal objects from London’s Covent Garden, including a coal scuttle and large metal jug she had painted in traditional canal narrow boat floral designs; plus vibrantly painted horse shoes. She exhibited intricate iron cast sculptures she had made after undertaking a course with a blacksmith. Her final exhibits was a wide selection of colourful paper folded origami flowers for weddings and other festive occasions – some taking many hours to plan, pattern and execute, such as a variegated blue and pink hydrangea along with a wide selection of roses, begonias and sunflowers. The audience asked a series of questions about the creative output and standards Carrie had achieved before the chairman gave a vote of thanks with the audience heartily applauding. During refreshments, just before the monthly raffle draw, club secretary, Keith Evans, announced the next meeting is from 1.30pm, Tuesday, July 9, when the guest speaker is Mohammed, the CK’s supermarket baker.
