Third tier to be scrapped?

COSTCUTTER Football League clubs are to consider a possible change in the league set-up by scrapping division three.

The matter is top of the agenda at the league’s annual general meeting in Ffostrasol on Tuesday, July 9, at 7.30pm, when clubs will discuss a suggestion at a recent league meeting by secretary Geraint Davies.

As it stands there are 24 teams split into three divisions, but last season there were only 14 league games in the third tier, which had only five teams.

Mr Davies suggests 12 teams in two divisions, with the 11-strong first division increased to 12 with promotion from the second tier for top three Dewi Stars, Aberporth and Maesglas.

The bottom two in the first division – Bargod Rangers and Aberaeron Reserves – would be relegated, bringing the number of teams in the second division, currently eight-strong, to 12.

Also at the AGM, Rhys Evans of Aberporth will stand down as chairman after his two-year stint. He will be replaced by John Jones of Dewi Stars.
