Having made their best ever start to a campaign during their time in the Premier League, producing a run that delivered five successive victories, the Wanderers will be disappointed with recent performances.

And that is especially the case in the narrow defeat against Newport Fugitives at Trinity Fields on Saturday.

The Fugitives, who are at the bottom of the table, restricted the Wanderers to 157-9 off their 50 overs, which looked a competitive total.

Owain Davies top-scored with a carefully constructed 29. Owain Binding made 24 and Steve Inward 21.

Jack Thorpe-Yon, Meirion Thomas and James Didcote all took two wickets for the Fugitives.

In response, the visitors were wobbling at 70-5, but their lower-order batsmen rode their luck, aided by a disappointing Wanderers fielding display that was well below their usual high standards, to win the match by one wicket with three balls to The home side made 240-8, with spare in a very exciting game.
