Batting collapse sees Gorseinon drop down table

-

GORSEINON lost ground in the South Wales Premier League 2 promotion race when they were beaten by 40 runs at Ynystawe.

The defeat sees them drop to sixth in the table and they are now 40 points behind leaders Swansea.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Gorseinon looked well on top when they reduced the hosts to 27-3, with Gafyn Donald claiming the wickets of Morgan Hodges and Sohail Syed, who went for a first-ball duck.

But Carl Roberts and Tom Morgan then combined to put on an unbeaten partnership of 203 for the fourth wicket to guide Ynystawe to an imposing 230-3. Roberts was 84 not out at the close, with Morgan finishing on 100 not out, a knock that included 10 fours and three sixes.

Gorseinon made a decent start in reply as they reached 65-1 before the wickets of Scott Thomas (22) and Donald (five) checked their momentum.

Nishaanth Dalavaye and Christopher Morgan put on 83 for the fourth wicket, but the run out of Dalavaye for 47 sparked a collapse.

Morgan (43) soon followed and Gorseinon lost their last seven wickets for just 36 as they slumped to 190 all out.

Roberts took 4-20 off 7.5 overs, with Tom Davies and Tom Morgan both picking up two wickets.

Gorseinon host Carmarthen Wanderers on Saturday.
