Cup dreams come to end

-

BRONWYDD’S interest in the Cricketer Village Cup is over after they were defeated by Warwickshire side Fillongley.

Due to the unavailability of key players, Bronwydd travelled more in hope of causing an upset against a team who have reached the last four in previous years.

The hosts batted first and Tom Gleeson and Matthew Vaughan soon had Bronwydd on top as wickets fell regularly and half of the side were dismissed with only 54 on the board.

Bronwydd’s fielding has been a highlight this year and the enthusiastic side gave the bowlers their full support.

Only a patient 30 from Sajjad Ali gave the innings any substance as Bronwydd had the home team back in the pavilion with only 125 on the board.

James Dickson took three wickets, with Gleeson and Vaughan claiming two each.

The Bronwydd reply got off to the worst possible start as they lost their first two wickets with only seven on the board.

The batsmen could not build partnerships and the home side got on top with only Carwyn Jones (32) and Oli Furneaux (23) getting into double figures.

The innings ended on a disappointing 72 all out.
