WRIGHT BLITZ SEES OFF LLAN

COWBRIDGE are in still in charge in division one of the South Wales Cricket Association after making light work of Llangennech.

After being set 167 to win, former Glamorgan batsman Ben Wright hit 11 fours and three sixes in his 100 off 111 balls to steer Cowbridge home.

Opening partner Thomas Merilaht was 64 not out as the pair led the Vale of Glamorgan side to a crushing 10-wicket win.

Earlier, Llangennech were bowled out for 166, Chris Hickey top-scoring with 48 as Rian Thomas picked up three wickets and Samuel Routledge and Tom Williams two apiece.

Nearest challengers Tata Steel also bagged 20 points from a 10-wicket victory at Gowerton.

Nathan Ferrell and David Jones both took three wickets as hosts Gowerton were all out for 126, before Morgan Jones (57no) and Martin Lewis (56no) got Tata to their target with the minimum of fuss in 30.2 overs.

Skipper Bevan Daniels (41) and David Gascoyne (39no) top-scored for Gowerton.

In division two, Felinfoel earned a maximum 20 points thanks to an eight-wicket win away to Margam.

Craig Richards (3-12), Anthony Mathias (2-9), Rhys Harries (2-33) and Tom Jones (3-12) skittled the Port Talbot side out for 90 in 42.3 overs.

Then Richards (28no) and skipper Julian Griffiths (46no) eased Felinfoel to 93-2 in just 19.2 overs.

Drefach also had joy on their travels with a 15-run success at Skewen.

Owen Donovan (31no) and Harry McBryde (23) were the top scorers as the Gwendraeth men were dismissed for 131 in 47 overs.

But once Skewen openers Callum Davies and Dean Kriescher were out the rest of the batting, apart from No. 10 Steve James (31no), put up little resistance and the hosts folded to 116 all out in the 49th over.

Harry McBryde (3-39), captain Rob Seymour (3-11) and Leigh Davies (2-13) were the most successful of the six bowlers used.

In division three, a superb 189-run partnership between skipper Craig Evans (125no) and Daniel Griffiths (82), batting at six and seven, steered Pontyberem to a 124-run win at home to Morriston — this after Berem had slumped to 32-5.

The hosts finished on 251-7 and then restricted Morriston to 127-8 in their 50 overs, Jack Rogers taking 3-27, Dafydd Davies 2-24 and Craig Evans 2-2.

Down in division seven there were mixed fortunes for Pontyberem Seconds, who on Saturday lost by eight wickets away to Pontardawe Seconds, who made 126-2 chasing Pontyberem’s 125 all out.

Craig Bowen top-scored for Berem with 36 not out.

And then on Sunday it was a case of blink and you missed it for Pontyberem’s rearranged home game against Briton Ferry Town Seconds.

Ferry Town’s innings lasted just 14.2 overs as they were shot out for 14, six of their batsmen having ducks as Tristan Jones took 4-5.

Pontyberem then took just 4.4 overs for openers Iestyn Davies and Dafydd Davies to reach 15-0.
