Welsh enjoy success at special night

-

FFOS Las marked its 10th anniversary last Thursday with a jumps meeting that was widely supported by Welsh owners, trainers and jockeys.

And they were rewarded with plenty of winners.

The first race went the way of Llancarfan-based trainer Evan Williams. History repeated itself as the trainer won the opening race run at Ffos Las 10 years ago with Plunkett, who was ridden by Donal Fahy. This time around it was Adam Wedge doing the steering as he guided Grania O’Malley home to win by just under a length from Topofthecotswolds.

The second race went the way of Midnight Folie, who made all and drew away from the field to win by 15 lengths. Ridden by Ben Jones and trained by Tim Vaughan, the mare has had a particularly good point to point season, winning five of her seven starts for the Mathias family and she looks to have an exciting summer ahead of her.

The novice hurdle went to Sunset Showdown for Rebecca Curtis and Aidan Coleman. The winner looked to be travelling well throughout and went on to win by just over two lengths from Young Wolf.

Connor Brace was also in the winner’s enclosure, this time on his grandfather David Brace’s Patsio. The pair jumped off prominently and held their position to hold off northern challenger Outcrop.

Racecourse ambassador Sean Bowen has enjoyed a good couple of days. On Friday he was in the winner’s enclosure at Market Rasen as Gone Platinum landed the Summer Plate Trial for Pembrokeshire trainer David Rees.

Gone Platinum was a winner at Ffos Las in May and continued his winning streak. In Perth on Saturday, Sean came away with a double. Viens Chercher won the feature race for his father Peter and he also picked up a last-minute ride to win on Valentino Dancer for Olly Murphy.

The next fixture at Ffos Las is on Friday, July 11, which is the track’s Elvis Race Night. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the evening and top Elvis tribute act Suspiciously Elvis will be performing after the last race.

Tickets can either be online or from the office on 01554 811092.
