Footy chance for the vets

Llanelli Star - - RUGBY -

A VETERANS football club is up and running in Cardigan, and the newly-formed veterans side put up a creditable performance despite going down 4-2 against a vastlyexperienced Merthyr team at Penydarren Park.

The Cardi vets took the lead against the Valleys side and appeared on course to earn a draw before conceding two late goals. St Dogmaels manager Steve Jerry Williams and new Cardigan Town head coach Steve Blackford were on target for the visitors.

Further friendlies at King George V Playing Field in Cardigan against Swansea University and a return game against Merthyr are in the pipeline before the start of the Wales Over-45s League.

Former players interested in resurrecting their playing careers or anyone prepared to provide sponsorship backing for the team are asked to contact secretary Richard Bowen (tel 07807 664991).
