Curran leads from front as Llechryd earn key win

-

BOUNCING back from the previous week’s defeat against Pembroke County Cricket League division two leaders Narberth, a strong Llechryd side emerged winners by 101 runs in a vital promotion battle against Hook in the Teifi Valley village.

A maximum haul of 30 points saw John Curran and his team-mates draw 41 points clear of third-placed Hook.

Opener Curran again led from the front as he made 64, and was well supported by Graham Keen (25) as the Teifisiders posted 200-7. Mathew Holder picked up two wickets for the visitors.

The Hook innings never took off as tight bowling and quality fielding kept the run rate down, with seamer Graham Keen in great form with 5-20 as Hook were dismissed for 99.

Crymych triumphed for the fifth time in division four this season when they beat Carew 3rds by three wickets at Glandy Cross.

In a Carew total of 145 the top scorer was Alex Wilks with 67 as Rhodri Thomas took three wickets and Rhydian Thomas two.

As Crymych got home for the loss of seven wickets Richard Thorne led the way with 52 and Rhodri Lewis was undefeated on 45.

In the same division, Llechryd 2nds held out for an away draw against their Hook counterparts, with Ollie Roberts the main man with a vital contribution of 89, well supported by Rob Mansfield who made 35.

Hook posted 230-4, with Gareth Owen not out 66 and Sam Rossiter making 31 and at the end the visitors were 183-5.
