TOP OF THE CLASS Frank keeps getting better and better
ELEVEN days after the Dyfed Secondary Schools Athletics Championships were held over two days in Carmarthen, the Dyfed Schools District’s NASUWT Cup Final match soon came around rapidly and headed to the Haverfordwest High School Prendergast campus.
Schools from Queen Elizabeth, Dyffryn Taf, Dyffryn Aman, Bro Dinefwr, Haverfordwest High, Y Preseli, Aberaeron, Bro Pedr, Penweddig, Bryngwyn, Y Strade, Coedcae and Glan y Môr were all top two/ highest finishers in their respective county and cup matches in May and June and so travelled to take part in this midweek fixture.
Most of the areas within the district held their qualifying matches in recent weeks at Carmarthen, Llanelli and Haverfordwest. Wet weather affected the Ceredigion match in Tregaron and as a result was cancelled.

The winners and runners-up from the U14 girls, U14 boys, U16 girls and U16 boys will now represent Dyfed at the Welsh Schools National NASUWT Cymru Cup & Plate Finals at Penlan Arena, Brecon, next Wednesday.
Following district qualifying matches up and down the country in May and June, Wales’s top runners, jumpers and throwers will descend on the Cardiff International Sports Stadium athletics track this Saturday for the 72nd edition of the Welsh Schools’ annual championships.
Selected athletes will be representing their districts from Dyfed, Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & Vale, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales, Powys and South East Wales.
The Welsh Schools Athletic Association’s fixture will take place as part of the Gemau Cymru weekend which is organised by Urdd Gobaith Cymru across three locations in Cardiff,
Swansea and Bala.
The competition is open to the Junior (Year 8 & 9), Middle (Year 10 & 11) and Senior (Year 12 & 13) age groups.
Selection for the Schools’ International Match (SIAB) will be made the day after for the event on July 20, where Welsh Schools will pick their U17 team for the annual international between Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland at Swansea University.
