Francis left stranded as Gorseinon claim thrilling tie
GORSEINON were involved in a thriller in South Wales Premier League 2 as they tied their match at Malpas.
The visitors set a healthy target after posting 248-9 in their 50 overs. They were led by a patient 52 from Scott Thomas, while there were solid contributions from Greg Fisher (36), Christopher Morgan (33), Kieran Howells (31) and Gafyn Donald (25).
Lewis Morgan took 4-55 for Malpas.
The hosts got off to a fine start in reply as Ryan Ward and Michael Martin put on 64 for the first wicket.
Ward’s dismissal for 42 brought James Francis to the crease and he struck 11 fours and three sixes to carry his side to the brink of victory.
But Francis was to be left frustrated on two counts. Malpas could not quite claim victory as they reached 248-7 at the close to force a tie, while Francis was left stranded on 99 not out.
Donald and Nishaanth Dalavaye both snapped up two wickets for the visitors.
Gorseinon, who stay sixth in the table, host bottom side Panteg on Saturday.
