Hun­dreds get ready to fea­ture in Am­man­ford race

SUN­DAY will see club and fun run­ners take to the streets of Am­man­ford in their num­bers at the town’s an­nual 10k road race.

The race, beginning at the Am­man­ford Recreation Ground, fol­lows the tra­di­tional route around the town be­fore pass­ing the Bon­ll­wyn Green to Llandy­bie and the sur­round­ing area. Ath­letes will re­trace their steps back down the coun­try lanes at Aber­lash to the fin­ish line, which will be lo­cated on the field out­side the rugby club. The event sponsors are Am­man­ford Lions Club, Llys Cen­nen So­lic­i­tors and Bre­con Car­reg.

Last year the event at­tracted 275 run­ners, the largest turnout in its his­tory.

For the sec­ond year in suc­ces­sion the Am­man­ford race in­cor­po­rates the West Wales Road Run­ning Cham­pi­onships where re­gional medals will be up for grabs.

Run­ners from clubs such as Port Talbot Harriers, Swansea Harriers, Llanelli AC, TROTS, Sarn He­len, Run4All Neath, Neath Harriers, 3M Gor­seinon, Sospan Road Run­ners, Aber­dare Valley, Car­marthen Harriers, Les Croupiers and hosts Am­man Valley Harriers turned out 12 months ago and are ex­pected to re­turn to the an­nual fix­ture this time.

Around 200 par­tic­i­pants have al­ready en­tered the event by using the on­line en­try link, which closes to­day.

Ath­letes who wish to be el­i­gi­ble for any of the West Wales age cat­e­gory prizes must en­ter by the on­line clos­ing date.

Lim­ited regis­tra­tion on the day will be open from 8.30am to 9.30am at Am­man­ford Rugby Club. The race starts at 10am.

Prize money will be awarded to the first, sec­ond and third over­all male and fe­male run­ners.

Tro­phies are also avail­able for Open Male, M40, M50 and M60, Open Fe­male, F35, F45 and F55 and male and fe­male team tro­phies.
