Llanelli Star

Fantastic group of talented people

-

THE Beacon Bursary competition is one of my favourite programmes to be involved with throughout the year, an opportunity to see entrepreneurship and enthusiasm at its best.

And this year was no exception, with another fantastic group of talented people competing for the prize of free office space, business mentoring and £5,000 in cash.

Perhaps one of our most unusual winners was 18-year-old Cameron Reardon of Llanelli, who sells all manner of bugs and insects as part of his online entomology business Bug Box UK.

It’s not something for everyone, but Cameron has quite clearly tapped in to a unique market and is looking forward to moving his business out of his bedroom and in to the big time.

Cameron really impressed us as judges, and one thing that did shine through was his persistence – he was a finalist in last year’s competition, but that didn’t put him off going through it all again.

Many other fantastic businesses were presented to us on the day, including alcohol beverage business Oddball Moonshine led by Dante Diana and fabric design business Cloth led by Imogen Mills – our second and third placed finalists.

The Beacon Bursary is an annual competition run by Carmarthenshire County Council in partnership with Coleg Sir Gâr and University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

It’s something I would encourage all budding entrepreneurs to give a try.
