REDS GRANTED DECENT START

-

LLANELLI Town kick off their FAW Championship South campaign at home to Pontypridd.

The opening match in the newlook division takes place at Stebonheath on Friday, August 16.

It promises to be a tough test for the Reds as Pontypridd have been steadily climbing the Welsh league pyramid in recent seasons.

Llanelli have been handed a decent start with three of their first four matches at home. After a trip to Goytre United on August 24, they end the month by hosting Briton Ferry Llansawel (August 27) and Afan Lido (August 30).

Cwmamman United, who surprised many last season with a topsix finish in division one of the Welsh League, start life in the Championship with a trip east to STM Sports in Cardiff on August 17.

Their first game at Grenig Park comes on August 23 when they entertain Cwmbran Celtic.

They head to Taffs Well on August 27 and then host serial promotion winners Swansea University on August 30.

Ammanford will enter the season with high hopes following the highprofile close-season capture of former Swansea City hero Lee Trundle, who has unsurprisingly been something of a goal machine since dropping into the Welsh League and starring for Llanelli, Haverfordwest and Trefelin.

They head to Taffs Well in their opening fixture on August 17.

They follow that with another away game, at Briton Ferry on August 23, while their first game at home is against Swansea University on August 27.

But they end the month on the road again with a trip to Llantwit Major.

The first local derby of the season comes on October 11 when Llanelli host Ammanford.

The game represents Trundle’s first visit back to Stebonheath since he helped the club to the Welsh League title in 2018.

The Reds then entertain Cwmamman on November 1.

Supporters will have to wait until December 28 before the first Amman Valley derby of the term, with Ammanford enjoying home advantage.

Cwmamman host their near neighbours on January 3.

The season is due to come to an end on April 4.

Meanwhile, Llanelli will head to Briton Ferry Llansawel or Taffs Well in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

In first-round action, Cwmamman head to Undy Athletic, while Ammanford take on Penrhyncoch. The winners of that tie face Welsh Premier League outfit Newtown in the next stage.
