OLD GOLD’S EARLY TRIP TO SEASIDE

-

CARMARTHEN Town head to Aberystwyth on the opening weekend of the new Welsh Premier League season.

The Old Gold make the trip to Park Avenue on Friday, August 16.

It represents a quick return to the ground for Neil Smothers’s men. They visited Aberystwyth on the final day of the 2018-19 campaign and on that occasion ran out 6-2 winners.

Liam Thomas, who has signed a new Carmarthen deal over the summer, led the way with a hat-trick.

Carmarthen play their first home game of the season the following Friday when Newtown are the visitors to Richmond Park.

There is a game scheduled for August Bank Holiday Monday, when the Old Gold make the long trip north to face Connah’s Quay Nomads, while the month ends on Friday, August 30, when Carmarthen entertain Barry Town United.

Following Llanelli’s Town’s relegation, there is no local derby to speak of so the Boxing Day clash sees Carmarthen host Bridgend-based Penybont. The return comes on New Years’s Day.

Another game to look out for is the visit of champions The New Saints to Richmond Park on Saturday, September 21.

The final game of the first phase comes on Friday, January 17, when Carmarthen head to Barry.

The Old Gold kick off their pre-season campaign on Saturday when they host Haverfordwest County (2.30pm).

The following Wednesday Smothers takes his side to Briton Ferry Llanswel (7.30pm), and on Saturday week Carmarthen take on Swansea City Under-23s at Richmond Park.

Meanwhile, Carmarthen will host either Undy Athletic or Cwmamman United in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup
