Hundreds get ready to feature in Ammanford race

SUNDAY will see club and fun runners take to the streets of Ammanford in their numbers at the town’s annual 10k road race.

The race, beginning at the Ammanford Recreation Ground, follows the traditiona­l route around the town before passing the Bonllwyn Green to Llandybie and the surroundin­g area. Athletes will retrace their steps back down the country lanes at Aberlash to the finish line, which will be located on the field outside the rugby club. The event sponsors are Ammanford Lions Club, Llys Cennen Solicitors and Brecon Carreg.

Last year the event attracted 275 runners, the largest turnout in its history.

For the second year in succession the Ammanford race incorporat­es the West Wales Road Running Championsh­ips where regional medals will be up for grabs.

Runners from clubs such as Port Talbot Harriers, Swansea Harriers, Llanelli AC, TROTS, Sarn Helen, Run4All Neath, Neath Harriers, 3M Gorseinon, Sospan Road Runners, Aberdare Valley, Carmarthen Harriers, Les Croupiers and hosts Amman Valley Harriers turned out 12 months ago and are expected to return to the annual fixture this time.

Around 200 participan­ts have already entered the event by using the online entry link, which closes today.

Athletes who wish to be eligible for any of the West Wales age category prizes must enter by the online closing date.

Limited registrati­on on the day will be open from 8.30am to 9.30am at Ammanford Rugby Club. The race starts at 10am.

Prize money will be awarded to the first, second and third overall male and female runners.

Trophies are also available for Open Male, M40, M50 and M60, Open Female, F35, F45 and F55 and male and female team trophies.
