Clwb Hamdden At their June gathering in the Bancffosfelen and Crwbin Hall leisure club members were thanked by former chairman Cy Rees for surprising him with a Halen y Ddear plate, those who spoke and the S4C production crew for their professionalism on the night. The guest speaker was noted television presenter Tweli Griffiths. He supplied an engaging and amusing account of his 40 years numerous news stories. The Ethiopian famine of the mid-1980s left a deep impression on him and made several visits to the stricken people of that African nation. He highlighted meeting Cuba’s Ramon Castro, Fidel’s brother, and ex-Libyan dictator Gaddaffi. On the lighter side Mr Griffiths revealed his lifelong passion for the mysterious world of magic; performing several tricks for the members that evening. He was given a vote of thanks for his presentation by Anne Langabeer, club chairman, which was accompanied by rapturous applause. Afterwards all partook of light refreshments.
On June 20 members embarked on their first day trip of the year with a visit to Herefordshire’s Ross-on-Wye including The Labels outlet store.
Thanks were given to trip organiser Dorothy Jones. At July’s gathering members will hear Maren Hamer discussing Friends Against Scams.
