Soccer mad in Crymych

-

OVER the years the Pembrokeshire village of Crymych has been rugby-orientated, but in future the community will also boast a football club.

At the Costcutter Ceredigion Football League annual general meeting an application by Crymych Football Club to join the league was unanimously accepted.

Although known as Crymych FC, the club will play home games a few miles away at Tegryn.

The inclusion of Crymych means there will be 25 teams in the Costcutter League next season, and a decision on whether to continue with three divisions or change to a two-tier system is to be taken at a league meeting in Ffostrasol on Tuesday, July 30, when the start of the new season will also be announced.

Alan Thomas of Cardigan, who commutes from his London home to referee local games and has been associated with the league for more than 50 years, was made a life member, and the honour was also bestowed on league treasurer Brian Williams of St Dogmaels and league stalwart Byron Davies of Dewi Stars.

After completing a two-year stint as chairman, Rhys Evans of Aberporth was succeeded by John Jones of Dewi Stars, with Bruce Scourfield of Llanboidy as vice-chairman.

At the meeting, Geraint Davies of Aberaeron started his 40th year as league secretary.
