Towy stars claim medal haul on international stage
TOWY Riders have clinched more success on the international stage.
The European Junior and Under-23 Track Championships took place in Ghent in Belgium where an impressive medal haul by Team GB was spearheaded by the West Wales club.
The week began strongly with Emma Finucane clinching a silver medal along with Charlotte Robinson in the team sprint.
On the same day, Eluned King narrowly missed out on a podium place by taking fourth overall in the scratch race.
By Wednesday, King had put this right when she and fellow Towy Rider Ella Barnwell formed part of the silver-medal-clinching team pursuit squad, with Barnwell proving a driving force within the team, who came so close to pipping overall winners Italy.
Finucane bagged a further silver medal in the sprint event and Barnwell, who rode every day in the endurance section of the squad, fought hard in the individual pursuit to climb to fifth.
Her persistent efforts saw her clinch a silver in the omnium, narrowly losing out to the Italians again.
The day ended in impressive fashion for Finucane as she became European champion in the 500-metre time trial, securing the gold medal in a time of 35.56 seconds.
Team GB secured a further gold medal thanks to Towy Rider Jessica Roberts in the under-23 omnium.
