Bont suffer a title setback

PONTARDDUL­AIS suffered a blow to their title hopes in the South Wales Premier League when they were beaten by 22 runs at Neath.

The defeat leaves Bont in fourth place, just 13 points behind leaders St Fagans.

Neath have climbed into second spot in what is turning into a thrilling title race.

Steffan Roberts top-scored with 45 as Neath were all out for 199. Samuel Peace took 3-42 and Shaun Harris chipped in with two wickets.

The visitors looked well set when Pearce (49) and Gary Arrowsmith (23) combined for an opening partnershi­p of 56. But Neath’s bowlers rallied and Bont’s last seven wickets fell for just 64 as they were dismissed for 177. Jack Butler was unbeaten on 39. Samuel Jardine took 2-15. Pontarddul­ais head to Bridgend on Saturday.
