Top order the heroes in run chase

LLANDYSUL came out on top for the sixth time in division one of the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n with a comfortabl­e five-wicket win at Briton Ferry Steel.

They stay fifth in the table as a result.

Steel lost wicketkeep­er Efan Hynes early on, but his opening partner Lloyd Clement (40) got his head down as he and Craig Evans, who made 89, and skipper Jason Hughes guided their side to a total of 233-9 in 50 overs.

Jason Jones took four wickets, Ieuan Paske picked up three and there were two for Arfon Jones.

Llandysul opener Gary Williams (62) and Ieuan Paske (30) shared in a stand of 100 and skipper Ben Edkins continued the good work with a fine innings of 71 as the home side reached the target for the loss of five wickets.

Not to be outdone by the senior side, Llandysul Seconds claimed a one-wicket win over division five leaders Skewen Seconds at Tir Dref.

Skewen posted 146 for the loss of eight wickets with wicketkeep­er Paul Williams making 53, which included two sixes.

Craig Gordon and Aled Jones picked up two wickets apiece.

As the home side knocked off the runs with a wicket to spare, Gareth Chapple (38) and Meurig Jones (25) both shone with the bat.
