Superb response for cross country’s opening fixture
THE first fixture of the West Wales Primary Schools Cross Country League took place at St Clears Leisure Centre, hosted by Taf Running and Orienteering Team.
TROTS club coach and series director Aled Jones-Davies, who has developed the club’s junior section over the last year, initiated this series of competitions and was pleased with the response.
More than 90 pupils from Ysgol Griffith Jones, Tavernspite, Bancyfelin, Bro Brynach and Meidrim took part in the races over a kilometre on the playing fields.
There were trophies for individual winners from Years 4, 5 and 6, and all who took part received points towards the next two races, run under Welsh Athletics rules.
The next fixture will be at Banc y Beili, St Clears, on August 16. All who ran in the first fixture, plus any other Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils from the invited schools, are eligible for the race and there will be an open race for other primary school children.
