James boys steal the show

CARDIGAN brothers Kevin and Colin James stole the limelight in the four-day Ceredigion Bowling Associatio­n finals at Aberaeron.

Welsh internatio­nal Kevin successful­ly defended his Open Singles title and in the process set a record by winning for the third year on the trot.

Lampeter kingpin Nick Randell was expected by many to push James, but he did not mount a serious challenge to the champion, who romped home by 21 shots to six.

James joined elder brother Colin, the current Cardigan captain, to win the Open Pairs for the second year in succession. They beat Lampeter duo Andrew Williams and Henry Jones 21-13.

Open 4s: Colin James, Kevin James, Paul Monders, Marc James (Cardigan) 19 Aled Roberts, Emlyn Dudley, Emyr Thomas, Nick Randell (Lampeter) 18.

Under-25s Singles: Hari Butten (Lampeter) 21 Iwan Davies (Cardigan) 19.

Senior Singles: Martin Cross (Llandysul) 21 John Jones (Tregaron) 11.

Senior Pairs: H. John Williams, Robert Davies (Llandysul) 19 Ron Thomas, Steve Entwistle (Lampeter) 17.

Senior Triples: Ron Thomas, Elfan James, Steve Entwistle (Lampeter) 16 John D Evans, Robert Davies, Martin Cross (Llandysul) 14.

Senior 4s: Ron Thomas, Ieuan Jones, Elfan James, Steve Entwistle (Lampeter) 20 Andre Bann, Dilwyn Jones, Michael Williams, Paul Monders (Cardigan) 13.

The national finals are being held in Llandrindo­d Wells from August 9 to 16.
