Llanelli Star - - RUGBY/HORSE RACING -

CARMARTHEN Quins have boosted their forward unit with the capture of two highly-rated props.

Tighthead Ben Leung and loosehead Oliver Evans have both made the close-season move to The Park.

And in what has been a busy few days for the Quins on the transfer front, they have also added fullback Geraint Llewellyn to their ranks.

He makes the move from Tata Steel.

Leung has agreed a deal with the Quins after a spell in France playing for Bergerac in Federal Division One.

The 18 stone 25-year-old, a renowned scrummager, has been capped by Wales Under-20s. He has also featured for the Scarlets and in the Premiership for Llanelli and Cardiff.

He said: “I am looking forward to the challenge of the new Indigo Premiership with the Quins.

“When the Quins made contact with me when I was in France, they had a vision of where they want to be and it was a great chance to link up with head coach Emyr Phillips. I bought in very quickly.”

Evans, the brother of Scarlets and Wales loosehead Rob Evans, has made the move from Bridgend.

The 24-year-old has also had spells with the Ospreys and Narberth.

He said: “When the Quins made contact with me and talked through their plans, together with the opportunity to be closer to my West Wales roots, it was too good an opportunity to let go.

“The boys have made me feel really welcome and I can’t wait to get into action.”

Phillips, who has been promoted to the role of development skills coach with the Scarlets, has moved for Llewellyn as he looks to add a fresh cutting edge to his back division.

Llewellyn is regarded as something of a sevens specialist, while he also offers options out wide with his ability to play on the wing.

He spent last season with Tata in the WRU Championship but has experience of the Premiership with both Cardiff and Neath.

He said: “I am really excited to be linking up with the Quins.

“I have played against the Quins the last two years for Tata and the brand of rugby they play and their professionalism really turned my head.

“Now the hard work starts, but I can’t wait to get started.”

The trio follow Morgan Griffiths in signing for the Quins this summer.

The centre has returned to the club where he spent five productive seasons following an injury-hit campaign with Cardiff.
