A YOUNG boy took a real knife into school with him and brandished it at other pupils, concerned parents have claimed.

The incident happened at Ysgol Pen Rhos in Llanelli.

A pupil at the school is said to have pulled a penknife out inside the building last Thursday morning.

No pupils were injured during the incident, but parents have reacted angrily to the situation on social media.

Some expressed shock at the fact that they were not initially notified by the school. One distressed parent wrote on Facebook that she was “fuming”, adding: “I can’t believe they would keep this from the parents”.

Another concerned mother said she was “absolutely livid”, while another parent said it was “shocking that a kid got it (the knife) into school in the first place – why weren’t the parents checking?”

The school, which opened last year following a merger of Copperworks Infant Nursery School and Lakefield Primary School, has around 400 pupils and around 60 nursery children.

Ysgol Pen Rhos broke up for the summer holidays on Friday and nobody from the school or the board of governors has been available to comment.

Carmarthenshire Council has, however, explained that the situation was dealt with by the school.

Director of education services at the council Gareth Morgans said: “We are aware of an incident that took place last week. This was dealt with by the school in line with policy.”
