New-look Cwm fail to take chances as Ton strike early

-

CWMAMMAN United suffered their first pre-season defeat when they went down 2-0 at home to Ton Pentre.

Cwm, who have signed nine new first-team squad members, went behind in the fourth minute when the visitors scored from a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area.

The hosts began to control possession through Luke Williams, Ashley Curtis and Chris Allen, while midfielder Ryan Thomas had a shot saved by the Reds keeper.

However, on 19 minutes Ton Pentre got their second goal after a fine through ball and a smart finish.

Cwmamman began to step up their efforts and Ross Morgan and Sean Howells dominated midfield, while striker Chris Allen saw two fine headers cleared off the line.

The second period began with Luke Williams having a shot saved by the Ton keeper. And the Blues stayed on the front foot as they forced 17 corners but could not convert any of their chances.

Manager Ryan Stephens, who is preparing his side for the new FAW Championship South season, said: “I am disappointed to lose, but these games are to help us prepare for the season. Sometimes you need to learn how to lose to appreciate a win.

“A win at any level is not a given, you have to earn a win and work for it. The performance is the important thing and as long as we learn from the positives and the negatives, it will help us going into the season.”

Cwmamman’s first and second teams travel to Penrhyncoch for their final friendlies on Saturday.
