Problems mount for Gors after heavy home loss

-

GORSEINON’S winless run in South Wales Premier League 2 now stretches to six matches following their weekend defeat at home to Newbridge.

They went down by seven wickets to the Gwent outfit and are now back in seventh in the table.

Gorseinon started the season in fine form by winning their first three matches. But since then they have struggled for form and their last win came against Newport Fugitives on June 8.

Having been put in to bat by the visitors, Gorseinon were immediately in trouble at 12-2 following the early dismissals of Eddie Evans and Jack Donovan.

Gafyn Donald (34) and Scott Thomas (21) steadied the ship and a stand of 47 between Nishaanth Dalavaye (28) and Christopher Morgan helped the hosts towards a respectable total.

Morgan ended unbeaten on 42 as Gorseinon reached 160-9. Chris James ended with the superb figures of 4-11 off eight overs.

The home side enjoyed an early breakthrough when Newbridge skipper James Morgan was bowled by Donald for nine.

But the visitors were rarely troubled as opener Travis Morgan struck 10 boundaries in his 75 and he found excellent support from Will Davey (35no) and Alex Horton (27) as Newbridge reached their total with 15 overs to spare.

Connor Barry took 1-28 off his 10 overs.

Gorseinon head to third-placed Penarth on Saturday.
