On-song Davies leads home large Sarn Helen contingent

SARN Helen runners were well represente­d in the Ammanford 10k.

Carwyn Davies ran 40 minutes 21 seconds, with Ken Caulkett clocking 40.22. Tim Rayner ran 44.23; Nicola Davies 57.44; Sian Bela Jenkins 57.55; Elisha Leigh Jones 59.40 and Jenny Caulkett 1.03.54

Sarn Helen were also represente­d in the Pen-y-Fan race. Glyn Price took on the challenge in the MV50 category, finishing 20th out of a field of 84. He was third in his category in a time of 44.58.

Competing in the 16.5k Horseshoe race was Daniel Hoope in the MV40 category. He ran a time of 46.10 to finish 14th out of 117 runners. He was sixth in his category.

Nigel Davies endured the gruelling Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones, a two-day event. Taking part in the V40 category, he achieved a time of 4.50.01 for the 50k distance.

The Black Mountains Trail Running Challenge is billed as one of the hardest challenges in Wales. Sarn Helen’s Jane Holmes clocked 4.41.39 to finish 15th in her category.

Sarn Helen husband and wife Nigel and Lorraine Davies took on the Porthcawl 10k, achieving times of 41.45 and 1.13.13 respective­ly

The Cwmann five-mile race and junior races were also hugely popular. In the junior 400 metres, first place went to Llewelyn Gregson, who finished ahead of Leighton Davies and Oliver Readwin.

In the junior 800 metres, first was Mari Evans. Hari Jones was second and Tudur Llwyd third.

In the junior 1500m, first place went to Rhys Williams in 8.21, with Jack Caulkett second (9.02) and Rhodri Gregson third (9.44).

The five-mile senior race attracted a field of 47 runners.

First overall was Sarn Helen’s Ken Caulkett in a time of 30.30, closely followed by Glyn Price (30.57), with Mike Sherman (M40) third in 31.35.
