WALES’S top athletes went head to head in the 102nd running of the Welsh Athletics Senior Track and Field Championships at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

Carmarthen Harriers won 11 medals at the Junior Championships last month and a further seven medals were won in Cardiff, two of them gold.

Jessica Lee followed up bronze in the 100m by moving up to the under-15 girls’ 200m. She won her heat comfortably in 27.20 seconds, then bagged a silver medal in the final in a time of 25.67.

There was a dominant display from under-15 Frank Morgan. He led his rivals from the gun in the 1500m to become Welsh junior champion in 4.16.04. Jack Thomas clocked 4.54.81.

In the girls’ 1500m, Amy Greatrick produced a new personal best to finish in 5.17.86.

Under-15 Oliver Moruzzi was involved in a hotly-contested final over 100 metres and ran 12.31. It was also a busy weekend for senior man Lewis Evans, who went in both the 100m (11.20) and 200m (22.82).

The under-15 girls’ javelin concluded the championships at the end of the two-day event and it turned to be worthwhile for Cordelia Walker, who threw 32.28m. This was enough to win the girls’ competition.

Further bronze awards came in the under-15 girls’ 4x100m where the quartet of Thaia Davies, Zara Evans, Bethany Davies and Jessica Lee finished third for the Carmarthen club.

There were also a number of Llanelli AC athletes involved.

Harrison James joined Evans in competing in both the sprint events, recording 12.10 in the 100m and 24.49 in the 200m.

Under-15 team-mates Hannah Forkuoh (46.64) and Amy Tucker (47.59) competed in the under-15 girls’ 300m, with the latter making it into the final with a top-two finish in the heats.

The club fielded relay teams in the under-13 girls, under-13 boys and under-15 girls categories. The under-13 boys ( Joseph Franklin, Ellis Penfold, James Thomas and Rhodri Roberts) and under-13 girls (Amelie Campion, Ffion Coslett, Emily Tucker and Cari Adams) just missed out on medal positions in fourth.

The under-15 girls’ quartet of Hannah Forkuoh, Amy Tucker, Kahlen Jones and Bethan Adams were seventh overall.
