BOWLERS SEAL SPOT IN FINALS

-

CARMARTHEN County Bowling Association’s Championship team visited Ceredigion at Lampeter and came away with an excellent 40-shot victory.

The win qualifies the team for the National Finals in Llandrindod Wells on August 18.

It is a great achievement for the side, who lost their opening match in Mid Wales but recovered to deliver successive wins against South Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan and now Ceredigion.

National Club Championship hopefuls Parc y Dre were well beaten for the second year in a row by Penylan Bowls Club of Cardiff. All Carmarthen County teams have now exited the competition.

In the Llanelli and District League, the Festival Week of Bowls was completed at Old Road on Friday with the Singles won by Leigh Moses of Havelock Park. Pairs honours went to Kidwelly Town, while Llanelli retained the Triples and also won the Fours, for the first time in 34 years.

In league matches, reigning champions and leaders Kidwelly Town had a close game at home to Llanelli on Saturday, winning by a margin of four shots.

Division one leaders Brynhyfryd produced a five-shot win at home to Burry Port, while chasing Dafen Welfare and Gowerton both enjoyed narrow victories.

Tybie and Cross Hands remain at the top of division two after wins against Ty’rfran and Parc William.

This week sees the semi-finals of the league singles competitions at Llanelli Bowling Club on Friday evening and a full schedule of matches on Saturday.
