WYN STORMS TO OVERALL GLORY
THERE was some quality golf on show as Carmarthen Golf Club seniors captain Rhodri Davies chose Cradoc for his annual away day.
Nearly 40 seniors made the trip to Brecon and were fortunate to have a sunny day with the course in good condition.
There were three divisions, and coming out on top in division one was Ian Griffiths with 35 points. He was followed by Rhodri Davies, who edged out Graham Williams for second on the back nine after both scored 34 points.
The winner in division two was Robert Thomas with 36 points, with a better back nine than Ian Mitchell in second. They were followed by Simon Barrett in third on 35.
In division three, the clear winner on the day with an excellent 41 points was Wyn James, followed by Paul Bennett on 37 and Peter Collins in third on 35.
There were two nearest the pin prizes which went to Wyn James and Simon Barrett, and nearest the pin in two on the par-four eighth was Hywel Morris .
On the same day, the seniors’ B team travelled to Glynhir for the quarter-finals of the Classic Bowl competition where they met Morlais Castle. And it turned out to be a very successful day, with Peter Williams and Alan Lewis winning 4&3 and Adrian Thomas and Norman Edwards winning 7&6.
This meant that Tony Jones and Gary Evans could shake hands on a half. The team now go on to the semifinals where they will face Pontypridd A at Morriston Golf Club in the middle of August.
Meanwhile, the ladies’ section honoured their lady president Margaret Liversedge by playing a stableford competition for which she had kindly provided generous prizes in three categories.
In division one, Megan Thomas took first place with 39 points. Second was Ann Morris with 36, who edged out Paula James via a better back nine. In division two, Vay Ashley-Jones took first with 36 points, with Pat Langley in second with 34. In third place was Delyth Rees (31).
In division three there were some impressive high scores, with Christine Soons winning with 41 points. Lady captain Brenda Richards was second with 40 and Anne Williams scored 37 in third place.
Jane Lindquist was nearest the pin on the par-three ninth hole and Edna Morris was nearest the line on the 18th hole.
