Iceland look at new out-of-town shop
ICELAND is looking at setting up shop at Llanelli’s Parc Pemberton.
The store already has a site in the town’s Park Street and could be a year away from having a new store out of town.
It comes in the wake of plans by Wilko to move out of Llanelli in a devastating blow to the town centre.
The major business will move out of the St Elli Centre at the end of September meaning shoppers will have to head over to their Parc Trostre outlet instead.
An Iceland spokesman said: “We are rapidly expanding our The Food Warehouse chain of larger stores and I can confirm that Parc Pemberton in Llanelli is on the list of sites we have under active consideration, though this currently remains subject to contract and the necessary planning and licensing approvals, and any opening would be more than a year away.”
Lee Waters, Llanelli AM, has previously urged for a strategy to be put in place to safeguard the future of the town. Mr Waters said: “We need to rethink what we want the town centre to be, and I’ve been pushing the county and town council for the last three years to come up with a strategy for the future, something I’m really keen to work with them on.”
