University responds to professor’s claims
SWANSEA University has responded to claims made by one of two academics sacked by the institution for gross misconduct last week.
Both vice-chancellor Richard B Davies and the dean of its School of Management, Marc Clement, were dismissed following an eight-month process. They both then released statements outlining their intentions to appeal.
Following those, a Swansea University spokesman responded to Professor Clement’s comments, saying: “We will take any appeal lodged by Marc Clement seriously. It is not correct that Marc Clement has not had ample opportunity during the last nine months to present his case. He has been presented with significant evidence and documentation during the independent investigation and by the disciplinary panel, during this time. He has been interviewed at length three times and has made multiple written submissions to the independent investigating manager and also the disciplinary panel.
“Despite these numerous opportunities, Marc Clement has been unable to explain his conduct, actions and the extensive documentary and witness evidence satisfactorily to either the independent investigating manager or the disciplinary panel. As such, the disciplinary panel has decided to dismiss him. The issues uncovered during this investigation have also been referred to the police.”
