AMMAN SWOOP IN FOR FOSCHI

-

AMMANFORD AFC have sealed the signing of Ryan Foschi.

The former Carmarthen Town man has made the move ahead of the start of the new JD Cymru South campaign.

He is another high-profile for Ammanford, following the capture of former Swansea City icon Lee Trundle earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, Ammanford suffered a 3-2 defeat against Pontardawe Town in a pre-season friendly.

Goals from Taylor Evans, Callum Silcox and Josh Dorward were enough to seal victory.

Both sides moved the ball around the park and it was the Swansea Valley side who had the better of the first-half exchanges and opened their account by scoring with a wellplaced shot into the corner of the net.

The second half saw Ammanford start to exert some pressure on the home team and won themselves a penalty after a Pontardawe defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in his own penalty area. Mathew Fisher rifled the spot-kick into the roof of the net.

The goal seemed to spur the home team back to life and it took an excellent save at close range from Ammanford stopper Craig Morris to prevent Pontardawe retaking the lead.

Soon after, the best goal of the game came from Ammanford’s Craig Frater, who from 30 yards out spotted the Pontardawe keeper off his line and with a sublime shot lobbed the ball over him and into the net.

But the lead lasted just minutes as Dorward turned the Ammanford defence inside out and stroked the ball home to level the scores.

The momentum was now with Pontardawe and some fine passing opened up the Ammanford defence which led to the third goal.

Ammanford tried to respond in the final minutes but could not find a way through as the hosts secured a deserved victory.

Meanwhile, Ammanford Reserves started their pre-season preparations with a fine 5-1 victory over Evans & Williams Reserves.

It was the Llanelli side who opened the scoring when a breakaway attack caught Ammanford on the back foot and a good cross into the area was headed home.

But Evans & Williams were pinned back on the stroke of half-time when Ammanford’s Chris Gregory Evans levelled.

Ammanford got themselves in front a couple of minutes into the second period when Alex Arnold netted. Further goals followed with a brace for Aaron Butler, and the fifth goal was scored by Rhodri Davies.

Ammanford boss Christian Lloyd will be pleased with the workout and the win. Ammanford Reserves visit Bryn Rovers on August 6 at 6.30pm.
