Cwmamman show up well in friendly
CWMAMMAN United rounded off their pre-season preparations with a 3-3 draw at Penrhyncoch.
The two sides play at the same level in the Welsh structure, with the hosts operating in the newly-formed JD Cymru North and Cwm in the South section.
A young Cwm side created the early pressure with successive corners, but in the 13th minute Penrhyncoch took the lead with a fine lobbed finish from experienced frontman Steff Davies.
The hosts then created another clear-cut chance that slipped outside the post of new Cwm keeper James Kirkwood.
Strong defensive play from captain Gareth Howarth, Nathan Davies and Calem Rees stemmed the threats and just before half-time Blues winger Ryan Hurlow equalised with a smart finish after a blistering run from Luke Williams.
The second period began with some strong Penrhyncoch pressure, but soon Cwmamman players Sean Howells, Joe Lewis, Jack Speed and Rob Morgans began to show up, with frontman Williams repeatedly driving forward.
Cwm went ahead in the 63rd minute when the experienced Williams was brought down in the area and he got up to calmly place the ball into the top left of the goal.
But Penrhyncoch levelled when Davies scored again.
In the final minutes of this entertaining contest both sides scored again, with the Roosters netting from a neat header before the impressive Ryan Hurlow equalised for Cwmamman with a fine strike from outside the box.
The serious stuff starts now for Cwmamman and Ryan Stephens’s team look forward to their next game at Undy Athletic in the Nathaniel MG Cup on Saturday.
Cwmamman’s second team were also in action at Penrhyncoch and came away with a fine 3-0 victory.
Connor Walters scored two goals and the experienced Nathan McNeil got the third.
