CHAMPIONSELECT Llangennec­h suffered a second consecutiv­e defeat when crashing by seven wickets at Dafen in the All Wales Sport Midweek League.

After restrictin­g Llangennec­h to 126-8 off 20 overs, Nicky Davies (46) and Matthew Donoghue (24no) steered the home team to victory with four balls to spare.

For Llangennec­h, Hedd Wyn Jones made 35 and Jonathan Taube scored 24, but they were the only batsmen to make headway against the bowling of Jonathan Randall (3-15) and Luke Dunning (2-20).

After failing to win any of their first eight league games, Llanelli made it two wins on the bounce when getting the better of Ammanford at Stradey Park.

Chasing a score of 119-4 off 20 overs, Ben Edwards scored 46 not out and Rhydian Morgan 25 to steer Llanelli to a fourwicket win.

Steffan Phillips top-scored with 38 for Ammanford, while the best of the bowlers for Llanelli was Osian Evans with 2-26.

In the only other game played, Gorseinon’s innings closed on 138-8 at Pontarddul­ais.

After losing the wickets of Tomas Davies, who was run out for 17, and Rhodri Owens (11) with only 31 on the board, Luke Main rescued Gorseinon with two sixes and eight boundaries in a hard-hit 62 not out.

He reached his half-century off 34 balls in 46 minutes.

But it wasn’t enough as Pontarddul­ais took control through an opening partnershi­p of 63 between Cameron Davey (62) and Tomos Fowler (51), eventually winning by seven wickets. Joel Beynon was 10 not out and Iwan Rees six not out.
