THERE has been a ma­jor im­prove­ment at Llandy­sul this sea­son.

Af­ter a dis­ap­point­ing time last term when they just avoided rel­e­ga­tion, this time around the Teifi Valley side are in a lofty fifth place in di­vi­sion one of the South Wales Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion.

In tast­ing suc­cess for the sev­enth time this year, Llandy­sul bagged a five-wicket win over bot­tom side Gow­er­ton at Vic­to­ria Road.

Elect­ing to bat first, the home side posted 156-9 in 50 overs as opener Lee Nicholas led the way with 41, an in­nings that in­cluded five bound­aries. Christo­pher Ma­son con­trib­uted 28 that in­cluded three fours and a six.

Luke Swift was best of the vis­it­ing bowlers with fig­ures of 3-33 in nine overs.

In the Llandy­sul re­ply, Gary Williams (37) and Ieuan Paske (13) made a bright open­ing and skip­per Ben Ed­kins made an un­beaten 41 as the tar­get was reached for the loss of five wick­ets in the 39th over.

It com­pleted the dou­ble for the Teifi Valley side, who beat their ri­vals by nine wick­ets at Tir-Dref in May.

Llandy­sul host Llan­gen­nech on Satur­day.

Llandy­sul Sec­onds made it a dou­ble for the club when pulling off a 66-run win over vis­i­tors Llantwit Ma­jor Cava­liers to bank 19 points.

Home open­ers Gareth Chap­ple (34) and Meurig Jones (59) got their side off on the right foot and skip­per Huw Evans was un­beaten as his side reached 158-7. The Cava­liers were all out for 92.
