Rogers takes charge as Pontyberem win in a hurry

PONTYBEREM maintained their promotion push in division three with an easy win at home to Tata Steel Seconds.

Tata chose to bat, but they lasted just 26.2 overs as they were shot out for 68. Alun Harris took 4-22 and Craig Evans 4-19.

Opener Jack Rogers then blasted 51 not out from 37 balls as Pontyberem rushed to 69-1 in 13.2 overs.

Dafen Seconds also kept in touch with the promotion places thanks to a 15-run at home to Bronwydd Seconds. Dafen were all out for 193, Owain Rees the best of the bowlers with 4-45. Mike Jones (30), Jake Sharpe (33) and Owen Thomas (60) all did well in Bronwydd’s reply but it wasn’t quite enough as they fell to 178 all out.

Bottom side Llanelli Seconds were well beaten by Morriston. The Swansea hosts amassed 239-8 despite Daniel Lewis’s 3-25 and then skittled Llanelli out for 109 in 23.5 overs despite a battling 44 from Dafydd Daniel.

In division four, Llanwrda still lead the way after a crushing 10-wicket win at home to GWR Bridgend in Llandovery.

GWR made 167-7, Garan Williams taking 3-37 and Steffan Roberts having the remarkable figures of 2-4 off six overs.

Llanwrda openers Adrian Davies (69no) and Nigel Clarke (65no) then saw the hosts to 168-0.

Llangennec­h Seconds are in fourth place after a six-wicket win at Briton Ferry Steel Seconds.

Steel made 162-8 in their 40 overs. Opener Rob Lloyd then hit 60 and Rhys Howells 40 as Llan eased to 1654 in 36.2 overs.

Also in division four, Llandeilo (106 all out) lost by six wickets at Pontardawe (108-4), and Kidwelly Town (213-5, James Conick 61) enjoyed a 105-run win at home to bottom side Merthyr Tydfil Seconds.
