THE third annual Burry Port Raft Race proved to be a big success with both competitors and spectators at Burry Port Harbour.

The race, organised by Burry Port couple Craig and Isabel Goodman, raises funds for both Burry Port RNLI and a children’s football academy and primary school the couple support in Gambia.

The harbour walls were crammed with people watching the homemade rafts race around the docks.

The day also featured food stands and various stalls, along with children’s rides and characters – and a visit from some Star Wars Stormtroopers!

First raft over the line for the second year running was team The Floating Dead from LBS Builders Merchants.

Their winning oar was presented by Chris Hope from overall sponsor Dawsons.

Best dressed raft went to The Tooth Ferry team from Achddu Villa Dental Practice. They were presented with their oar by John Burns from sponsor Burns Pet Nutrition.

Best dressed crew went to Run Aground from Burry Port RNLI, and they were presented with their winning oar by Bob Hockey from sponsor Burry Port Marina.

Last raft over the line was presented to 3rd Time Lucky from Burry Port Co-op and first raft to sink was won by Llanelli Sea Cadets team, Puddle Pirates, who unfortunately didn’t make it far from the slipway!

Mr Goodman said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported and helped with the raft race, including overall sponsors Dawsons and all our sponsors Burns Pet Nutrition, The Marine Group, Llanelli Star, Celtic Couriers, Burry Port Co-Op, Parker Plant Hire, LBS Builders Merchants, First Choice Flooring and Burry Port Town Council.”

Mrs Goodman added: “Thank you also goes to Sandstar Creations, Burry Port RNLI, St John’s Ambulance, The Wave, Bob and Jay from the Marine Group and all our family and friends who helped with the event.

“We couldn’t have done it without you.”
