Sur­prise as Llandy­sul go down to strug­glers

AN up­set in di­vi­sion one of the South Wales Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion saw fifth-placed Llandy­sul go down at home against sec­ond-from-bot­tom Llan­gen­nech.

The vis­i­tors made good progress with a num­ber of valu­able knocks, no­tably from Hedd Wyn Jones at num­ber four who hit six bound­aries in an un­beaten 56, James Taube at first wicket down who con­trib­uted 49, which in­cluded eight fours, and David Williams in the mid­dle or­der who clouted seven fours and two sixes in a fine knock of 53.

Medium-pacer Ar­fon Jones took 2-40 in 10 overs.

In the Llandy­sul re­ply Gary Williams (23) and Ieuan Paske (26) shared an open­ing stand of 49, while skip­per Ben Ed­kins (41) and Rhy­dian Har­ries (35) kept the score­board tick­ing.

But it was Luke Swift at num­ber seven who stole the lime­light with an un­beaten 72, which in­cluded six fours and two sixes off 64 balls, but af­ter 50 overs the home side were 218-7 and 26 runs short.

In di­vi­sion five, third-placed Llandy­sul Sec­onds won by 130 runs away to lowly Baglan Sec­onds and banked a max­i­mum 20 points.

Llandy­sul posted 188-6 in 40 overs and then bowled out the Port Tal­bot side for 58 in 25 overs.
