Eisteddfod honour
Scarlets stars in the Gorsedd
WALES rugby internationals Jonathan Davies and Ken Owens were invested at the first Gorsedd of Bards ceremony at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst this week.
The Carmarthenshire-born stars, who both play for the Scarlets, had taken time out from the punishing training schedule with the Wales squad ahead of this year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.
After the ceremony Ken, from Carmarthen, said he was very proud to have been part of the ceremony.
“There’s a long history of the Llanelli team and the Gorsedd of Bards with Ray Gravell, Robin McBryde and Carwyn James and it’s nice to be one of them now.”
He added he has been a regular visitor to the Eisteddfod over the years.
Jonathan, from Bancyfelin, said being invested in the Gorsedd made him feel as proud as stepping on to the pitch in the Principality Stadium representing Wales. “I feel very proud today,” he said. Looking ahead to Japan both hope they will be chosen for the squad and that Wales will be successful in the tournament. After the ceremony he and Jonathan posed for selfies and photos with rugby fans.
