Teenager’s fun day for disabled and siblings
A TEENAGER is organising a fun day at a Carmarthenshire country park in aid of children with disabilities.
Amelia Macbeth, aged 14, whose younger brother Wilson, 3, has Down’s syndrome decided she wanted to do something over the school holidays and came up with the idea.
She has just been made an ambassador for the charity Follow Your Dreams, which inspire children with special needs to follow their ambitions.
Amelia’s fun day, dubbed Picnic In The Park, will be held at Pembrey Country Park on August 18, between 11.30am and 3.30pm.
As well as raising money for the charity, Amelia wants children with siblings who have a disabilities to use the day as a way to make friends with each other.
She said: “The aim is so they can meet up, see new faces and make some friends.
“I have two brothers who happen to have disabilities so I know how difficult it can be.”
Her seven-year-old brother Ted has an incomplete chromosome which means he has quite a few issues that affect his day to day living and health
Amelia, who lives in Saundersfoot added: “It’s the first time I’ve done anything like this and I’m trying to do this off my own back.
“I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to attend, and that’s why I’m hosting away from home – Pembrey seamed like a great place to do this. I want it to be an informal picnic where people can come and go, but have a base to return to.
“My mum Sara has helped me contact people and groups because as I’m only 14 some people haven’t taken me seriously.”
The event will include a range of activities ranging from magicians, face painting, balloon modelling and food on offer such as cakes. There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses Tickets for the raffle are £1 each.
