Gorseinon aiming to deny Dafen

-

WHILE Llangennech have secured the All Wales Sport Midweek Cricket League title, the attention now turns to the semi-finals of the popular Bowl competition.

The top four clubs at the end of the season qualify, and already through are Llangennech, Pontarddulais and Gowerton.

And Gorseinon will deny Dafen a place if they get seven points from the last game at home to Llanelli tonight.

Pontarddulais completed their league programme with a comfortable seven-wicket win at home to Dafen on Friday.

After bowling Dafen out for 81, Alex Thomas (39no) helped Pontarddulais knock off the runs in the 12th over.

In the batting for Dafen, only Jonathan Randall (20) made headway against the bowling of Luke Benton (2-5), Dafydd Davies (2-7) and Iestyn Rees (2-17).

Only a couple of days previously Dafen were involved in a thriller when accounting for visiting Gorseinon by three runs.

Batting first on a placid track, the home team rattled up 166-7 off 20 overs, the bulk of the runs coming from Matthew Donoghue (41), Tom Lavender (29) and Jonathan Griffiths (27). Andrew Dyer claimed 3-24.

But despite a half-century from Matthew Carey (56) plus 34 not out from Sam Coker, Gorseinon just failed to get the 11 runs needed from the last over and finished short on 163-8.

RESULTS ( July 31): Dafen 16-7 beat Gorseinon 163-8 by 3 runs.

(August 3): Pontarddulais 84-3 beat Dafen 81 by 7 wickets.

FIXTURES (August 7): Gorseinon v Llanelli, Llangennech v Gowerton.
