Surprise as Llandysul go down to strugglers

AN upset in division one of the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n saw fifth-placed Llandysul go down at home against second-from-bottom Llangennec­h.

The visitors made good progress with a number of valuable knocks, notably from Hedd Wyn Jones at number four who hit six boundaries in an unbeaten 56, James Taube at first wicket down who contribute­d 49, which included eight fours, and David Williams in the middle order who clouted seven fours and two sixes in a fine knock of 53.

Medium-pacer Arfon Jones took 2-40 in 10 overs.

In the Llandysul reply Gary Williams (23) and Ieuan Paske (26) shared an opening stand of 49, while skipper Ben Edkins (41) and Rhydian Harries (35) kept the scoreboard ticking.

But it was Luke Swift at number seven who stole the limelight with an unbeaten 72, which included six fours and two sixes off 64 balls, but after 50 overs the home side were 218-7 and 26 runs short.

In division five, third-placed Llandysul Seconds won by 130 runs away to lowly Baglan Seconds and banked a maximum 20 points.

Llandysul posted 188-6 in 40 overs and then bowled out the Port Talbot side for 58 in 25 overs.
