Sur­prise as Cardis storm to ti­tle glory

A GRAND­STAND fin­ish to the sea­son saw Cardi­gan lift the Ceredi­gion Bowl­ing As­so­ci­a­tion ti­tle at the ex­pense of reign­ing cham­pi­ons Lam­peter, who fal­tered in the fi­nal two games.

Go­ing into the last two fix­tures Lam­peter ap­peared on course to re­tain the ti­tle, but they came un­stuck twice.

In the penul­ti­mate game be­tween the top two on the Gw­bert Road green in Cardi­gan, the home side eased to vic­tory and banked 12 points, which left Colin James and his side a point clear go­ing into the fi­nal day.

To be crowned cham­pi­ons Cardi­gan needed 13 points from their visit to bot­tom side Queen’s Road in Aberys­t­wyth.

The Cardis plun­dered the re­quired points as they won 7960, but as it tran­spired the ti­tle was handed to them on a plate as Lam­peter went down by eight shots against vis­i­tors Tre­garon and ended the sea­son 10 points adrift of the new king­pins.
