Get An Oscar earns Bowens another win
THE National Hunt season is having a short break, with no meetings taking place between August 4 and 14.
However, before the break started Peter Bowen scored with Get An Oscar at Market Rasen, ridden by his youngest son James.
The horse had been placed in his last five outings and deserved to get his head in front.
Get An Oscar is still only five and one can imagine him running plenty of bigger races in the future.
On the flat, David Evans’s Scofflaw completed a hat-trick at Chester last Sunday.
Richard Fahey had trained him until November, when he won for the fifth time.
Those were all over six and seven furlongs, but once he joined Evans he was tried at a mile, which has shown his true stamina.
He won by a nose at Wolverhampton at the end of May, and after a seven-week gap took advantage of a lower rating on turf to win at Haydock at, with hindsight, remarkably generous odds of 16-1.
The handicapper didn’t raise him too much and his Chester victory was an easy one, this time over a mile and a quarter.
Ffos Las now turns its attention to the biggest race meeting of the year, the Heatforce Ladies’ Day on Friday, August 23.
Alongside seven competitive jump races there will be the popular ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again playing after the last race.
The prizes are bigger and better than ever before for the ‘best dressed’ categories including £500 worth of vouchers for Slaters Menswear, £1,000 cash prize for the best dressed lady and a fantastic prize for best hat including a Pandora bracelet, fur cape and trilby and £400 worth of vouchers for a bespoke made head piece, kindly donated by Victoria’s Hats.
There are very limited hospitality options left, and general admission tickets are just £22 in advance.
